Welcome to the jungle, the concrete jungle that is…

Calgary Engagement Photography I don’t spend a lot of time shooting portraits in the City.  Not that I’ve got anything against cities, I do like the culture and amenities that they provide. But, given the choice, I’ll take the fresh air, mountain tops, forests, and streams of the Rockies any day. However, I don’t want to deliver duplicate sets of images, with just different outfits, so, I like to shoot the engagement session in a setting that is completely different from where we will shoot their wedding portraits.  When clients are booked for a Banff or Canmore Wedding, I like …

The best 16 wedding photos from 2016

16 Best Fernie Wedding Photos of 2016 We are already 1/9th of the way through 2017, but I thought I’d take a second and look back at 2016.  What a great year! I worked with loads of awesome couples who planned some really special weddings.  We had our fair share of weather woes (I had 4 weddings with helicopter flights scrapped as a result of the weather), but, you can’t control the weather. So we worked with it.  There is always a cool location to work, and often times a ho-hum place is made better in inclement weather. Without further ado, here are my favorite my Fernie wedding photos from …

The Adventure Bride: Location, location, location!

Having been through two weddings of my own (same woman, different locations!), worked at a destination mountain wedding venue for 7 years helping to manage logistics, and now a wedding photographer for almost a decade, I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on the many intricacies involved with planning a wedding.  But more importantly, I feel I’ve got the experience to impart on you a couple bits of  “insider knowledge” that might help you make sure your adventure destination wedding day is exactly the day that you want it to be. Probably the most important thing to decide …

The Adventure Bride- How to save your feet.

I’ve decided to start a little series called, “The Adventure Bride”. In this series, I’ll share some of the things that I’ve learned over almost a decade of shooting weddings in the mountains that will help future brides get the most out of their day. First topic: footwear. You brides will know better than I the potential perils of high-heeled footwear, and uneven terrain.  But, how do you get from Point A to Point B while still looking stylish?  Who cares! Its more important that you’re able to do it safely than to do it looking good (Its not like your …

How to make lemondade in the mountains..

Sometimes, the weather doesn’t always go as planned, or hoped for… Jesper and Ashley’s wedding was planned to be an outdoor ceremony with the three of us taking off on a helicopter flight afterwards for portraits, and landing at the base of Fernie Alpine Resort for their grand entrance to the Rusty Edge for their reception.  Instead, Mother Nature forced the ceremony indoors, and required that the heli flight be cancelled. Making some lemonade out of the situation, one of the groomsman contacted the owner of a sweet old van he’d seen listed for sale in town, and the owner …

Courtney & Patrick- Fernie Wedding Photographer

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, if I were to ever redo my wedding, I would do it at Bull River Guest Ranch.  The place is fantastic, and has options for every budget, and size of wedding.  My favorite part is its location, and proximity to multiple amazing photo locations.  Courtney and Patrick’s wedding timeline allowed us to get out and explore a couple locations I had in mind near the Ranch.  And then that party…

Bryan & Elyce- Canmore Wedding Photography

Shooting in the Banff/Canmore area is always a pleasure.  I love getting the opportunity to go up to the area, explore new locations, and shoot in mountains that people travel from the world come to see.  Bryan and Elyce’s wedding at Silvertip Resort was no different.

Ashley and Jesper- Fernie Engagement Photography

I met Ashely and Jesper at Rosalie and Justin’s wedding at Island Lake Lodge.  I made some sort of impression on Jesper when, he was a bit late getting to the ceremony, and I made a comment to him along the lines of “Jesper, why are we always waiting on you?!?”  He had no idea how I knew his name as we had never met before that moment.  Ha. Jesper and Ashley are avid climbers, skiers, hikers, and generally love a good adventure.  Since the weather was looking nice, a mountain top adventure seemed in order for their engagement session. …

Ashley & Rob- Fernie Wedding Photographer

The best part of being a wedding photographer, and lover of the outdoors, is when I get to combine my love for adventure with my client’s wedding day. One wedding location that I had heard of, but that I have never had the chance to shoot at, was finally ticked off my list with Ashley and Rob’s wedding.  Now that I’ve been there, its now my #1 recommended location for images.  The landscape and views from Bisaro Meadows are unreal.  Its almost like being on a different planet.  Its true remote alpine terrain, unlike anything easily accessible from town.  Rob …

Joey & Cassandra- Fernie Wedding Photographer

Joey and Cassandra contacted me on the recommendation of Lisa at Mountain Bride.  Joey told me that after reviewing my portfolio online, what lead them to contact me was, as he said, “There just seems to be a real connection between you and your subjects in your images.  And your style of shooting and editing seems real, not heavy handed, or subject to the whims of the day.”  I didn’t realize how important this was to them until we sat down to meet, and I learned of his background in graphic design.  It means a …
